Already we are two weeks into the SEC season and I wanted to go over just a few things that I have taken away from the first couple of weeks from the 2020 Alabama Football team.
- Mac Jones is a legitimate Heisman Trophy contender: Through two weeks Mac has completed nearly 75% of his passes for 684 yards and 6 TD’s and has complete command of the Tide offense. Mac will face a poor Ole Miss defense this week that ranks 72nd is passing efficiency defense and 74th in total defense. Then the biggest test of the season will come October 17, when Georgia comes to Tuscaloosa with arguably the top defense in the country.
- John Metchie III will be a household name by seasons end: Metchie exploded this past Saturday against Texas A&M with 5 catches for 181 yards and 2 touchdowns. On Alabama’s third offensive play of the game Metchie blew past the Aggie defender for a 78 yard touchdown. With defenses focusing in on DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle, Metchie has a chance to shine, much like he did this past Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
- Will Reichard looks confident: I know that it’s only been two weeks and he hasn’t really had to stretch his leg too much, but so far Reichard looks like the guy Tide fans have been longing for at place kicker. So far Will is 12/12 on extra points and 2/2 on field goals, with a long of 34. I know these numbers do not jump off the screen, but what I look for in a kicker is consistency in how the ball is kicked. All of Reichard’s kicks have look the exact same, solid contact, plenty of height, and consistent accuracy. Believe it or not, the Tide may have found a kicker!
